Event Overview

Step Up and Step Out is an annual fundraising event held in Norfolk at Harbor Park. The event offers two distinct activities for participants: a stair climb challenge and a distance walk/run. Participants select one primary event for official timing but may explore the other course at their leisure after completion if time permits.

The event features two main options:

  • Step Up Stair Climb: Individual challenge inside the stadium. Restricted to ages 5 and older.
  • Step Out Walk/Run: A 2 mile course along the Elizabeth River Trail.

Course Details and Logistics

The 2 mile walk and run course takes place on the Elizabeth River Trail, offering scenic views of the water. This portion of the event allows the use of baby joggers and strollers, with a request for these participants to position themselves at the end of the start corral. The stair climb takes place within the stadium seating area of Harbor Park.

Parking is available on-site at Harbor Park, where designated areas for parking and drop-offs are established. While there is no bag check, medical support is provided by an EMT stationed at the park and along the trail. The event takes place regardless of rain.

Registration and Participation

Registration is open to individuals and teams. There are no age requirements for the walk/run, though the stair climb requires participants to be at least 5 years old. Minors must be accompanied by an adult. Participants can pick up their race packets on the morning of the event at the venue. After the activities, a celebration is held in the courtyard featuring music, refreshments, and recognition for top fundraisers and finishers.
