Steamtown Marathon 2026
The Steamtown Marathon takes place on 10/11/2026 and includes two full marathon events: a Marathon and a Wheelchair/Handcycle Marathon, each covering 26.2 miles. The course runs point to point from Forest City High School in Forest City, Pennsylvania to Courthouse Square in downtown Scranton.
This is a USATF certified marathon and is an official qualifying race for The Boston Marathon. The route features a net elevation loss of 955 feet from start to finish and includes several miles on mostly paved Rails to Trails along the Lackawanna River.
Course notes vary by event. The Wheelchair/Handcycle Marathon contains several steep downhills and competitors in that event are not allowed to pass the lead vehicle. Marathon runners are expected to finish within six hours.
Registration for both events opens on 03/31/2026 and closes on 05/30/2026. The registration fee for each event is $115. The event lists start and finish locations in Scranton and Forest City and describes a river corridor running segment as part of the course design.
