Steamtown Marathon, Scranton PA
The Steamtown Marathon is a USATF-certified marathon and an official Boston Marathon qualifier held in Northeastern Pennsylvania. The event is scheduled for Sunday, October 11, 2026, and registration is open.
The course covers 26.2 miles, begins in the Forest City area and proceeds to Scranton, passing through 14 communities. The course has a net elevation drop of 955 feet. The event presents an expo and published course and race information for participants and spectators.
The Steamtown Marathon benefits St. Joseph’s Center in Scranton. Since 1996 the race has donated more than $2.6 million to the center. Corporate sponsors and volunteers support the event and help operate race-day services.
The event does not offer race deferrals. Runners are required to be capable of finishing the marathon within six hours. The race maintains records, results, and awards for elite and age group competitors. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
