Steaming Down the Valley

The event offers a 10 km trail run and a 5 km trail run, as well as paddlesports races (canoe, kayak, or stand-up paddleboard). All activities start simultaneously with the departure of a steam train from the Severn Valley Railway.

The running events start at the historic Country Park Halt station within the Severn Valley Country Park in Alveley. The course follows fully off-road trails along the River Severn, including dirt paths, woodland trail, gravel, and grass. The terrain features natural undulations and uneven footing, with the potential for muddy sections. For the 5 km run, the finish line is at Arley station. 10 km participants run to Arley and then return upstream along the river.

The paddlesports race starts from the Miner's Bridge within the Severn Valley Country Park. Participants paddle downstream on a sheltered section of the River Severn to a footbridge in Arley. Buoyancy aids are mandatory, and helmets are required for closed-cockpit and stand-up craft. Participants must have prior paddling experience for their chosen craft.
