Run Rabbit Run

Run Rabbit Run is a trail running event in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, held each September with two main distance options. The event runs on trails that include the base of the Steamboat Springs ski area and sections over Buffalo Pass, Emerald Mountain, Mount Werner and Rabbit Ears Mountain, including crossings of the Continental Divide and some singletrack that also passes through town. The races operate under a special uses permit on the Routt National Forest.

Distances

• 100 miles - limited to 450 entrants
• 50 miles - limited to 200 entrants

The 50 mile race began in 2007 as a charity event; a 100 mile race was added in 2012. The event reports donating over $700,000 to nonprofit organizations since 2007 and donated over $82,000 to twenty northern Colorado charities in 2025. For 2027 and 2028 the event will offer a $300,000 prize purse, including $100,000 awards to the first-place woman and man. The organizer provides a Runner’s Manual with race details. The course is not closed to other users, walking poles are permitted, and aid station availability may vary for some start options. A post race party at the finish includes beer, burgers, vegetarian options and salad; it is free to runners and volunteers and has an admission fee for others.
