Event overview
Run Rabbit Run is an annual trail ultramarathon held in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. The event offers two distances:
- 100 miles
- 50 miles
The 100 mile race is organized with two start groups, called Hares and Tortoises, and entry is limited. The event listing shows a field size limit for the 100 mile race and for the 50 mile race. For 2026 the 100 mile field is limited to 450 entrants and the 50 mile field is limited to 200 entrants. In 2026 the event includes prize money totaling $100,000, with $20,000 awards for the 100 mile male and female winners, a $5,000 team challenge, and a $1,000 Preem Challenge.
Course and community
Both courses run in the Routt National Forest and start at the Steamboat Springs ski area (elevation about 6,900 feet). The 50 mile route climbs nearly 9,000 feet. The 100 mile route climbs approximately 22,000 feet and includes Buffalo Pass and Emerald Mountain, with sections through town and across the Continental Divide to Rabbit Ears Mountain and Mount Werner. The race operates under a special use permit on national forest land.
The event is a charity race. Since 2012 it has donated nearly $700,000 to nonprofits; in 2025 it donated over $82,000 to 20 northern Colorado charities. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
