Event overview
The Steam Whistle 12k Run and 6k Walk takes place on Thursday, January 1, 2026 in Hattiesburg, MS at Jackson Road Station / Breland Community Center (79 Jackson Road, 39402). The event includes two distance options:
- 12K (7.46 miles)
- 6K (3.73 miles)
Both courses are out-and-back on the Longleaf Trace, described as flat. Both races start just east of Jackson Pavilion. The 12K turnaround is just west of Clyde Depot; the 6K turnaround is just west of Lake Thoreau Road. Two aid stations are on course, located at each turnaround.
Registration, kit and logistics
Standard registration prices are listed in the event information, with a reduced "no sweatshirt" option available. Price increases occur after December 1, 2025; online registration closes December 30, 2025. Register by December 18, 2025 to be guaranteed a race sweatshirt. Additional race zip hoodies may be purchased during registration for $30.00 ($2 extra for 2XL or 3XL). Matching sweatpants are available as an add-on for $30.00 ($2 extra for 2XL and 3XL). Last minute in-person registration at packet pickup is $50.00.
Early packet pickup is Tuesday, December 31, 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Breland Community Center. Race day packet pickup begins at 6:30 a.m. at the same location. Post-race food and door prizes will be offered at the Breland Community Center. Proceeds benefit The Dubard School for Language Disorders.
