Stead Tread 5K
The Stead Tread is a community 5K run/walk organized by the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Duke University Medical Center. It takes place in Durham, North Carolina at 4704 Fayetteville Road on September 27, 2026. Proceeds benefit the Lincoln Community Health Center, which serves medically underserved patients in Durham.
Registration opens February 20, 2026 and closes September 27, 2026. The standard registration fee is $35 per person; registration is free for Lincoln patients and for children 12 years and younger. Registrations will not be reimbursed if the event is cancelled due to weather. Participants who register by September 1st are guaranteed a t shirt; after that date shirt size and availability are not guaranteed.
Awards are planned across many categories, including overall top finishers by gender, fastest Duke Internal Medicine resident, fastest Lincoln patient, faculty, students, advanced practice providers, age group winners, and novelty prizes such as fastest stroller, fastest pet, and best costume. Only chip timed participants will be eligible for awards. The event is named for a former Chair of Medicine at Duke and is presented as a continuation of community service and contributions to the Duke and Durham communities.
