Lakeland Trails in Staveley
The event takes place at Staveley Recreation Ground and offers three marked and marshalled trail distances that run on footpaths and bridleways through the southern Lakeland fells. The routes climb out above the Kentmere valley, pass tarns and ancient woodland, ascend Reston Scar and return into Staveley village. Underfoot conditions are variable with short sections of tarmac, grassy trails, stony bridleways and some stiles near the end of the courses.
The longer route crosses Green Quarter Fell, passes Skeggles Water and enters the Longsleddale landscape. The Half Marathon includes a well stocked feedstation at Kentmere Hall and a water station further along the course. Runners are asked to carry their own water or bring a reusable cup because cups are not supplied at water stations. One water station serves the 10k.
Safety measures include medical cover from event medics, radio communications for marshals and a clear rule that in ear headphones are not permitted though bone conduction devices are allowed. Dogs are not permitted on the course. The final climb on the 10k and Half Marathon is on private land and recces are not allowed on that section.
Practical notes include on site parking with a fee or free parking for cars with four or more occupants, baggage storage at the marquee and live music plus event commentary at the start and finish area. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
