Staveley | Lakeland Trails
Staveley is a trail running event based at Staveley Recreation Ground with marked and marshalled courses that take in the southern Lakeland fells. Distances on offer include:
- 5K Kentmere Sport Trail
- 10K Kentmere Trail Run
- Half Marathon Trail 1/2-ish Marathon
- Fun Trails for children under 12 (enter on the day)
Routes leave Staveley and climb above the Kentmere valley before returning along the valley past tarns and through ancient woodland. Underfoot conditions vary: short sections of tarmac, grassy paths, stony bridleways and some stiles. The final climb onto Reston Scar is a notable feature known as the Sting in the Trail; this section lies on private land and recces are not allowed. The half marathon also visits Green Quarter Fell, passes Skeggles Water and dips into Longsleddale, with feedstation provision before Kentmere.
Event facilities include an event village with live music, race commentary, food and drink stalls, merchandise and a professional photographer. Advanced Life Support medics and a large team of marshals provide safety cover. Practical information for attendees: the event uses parking fields about an 8-10 minute walk from the event centre, parking fees apply and only small vans are suitable. Water stations are on course but competitors are asked to bring a reusable cup or carry their own water. Dogs and in-ear headphones are not permitted on the course.
