Stampede Duathlon : Billings, Montana
The Stampede Duathlon is a multi-distance run and bike event based at the ZooMontana parking lot in Billings. Start line, transition area, and finish line are all located at ZooMontana. Course sections use the Shiloh Conservation Area for running and local roads including River Road and crossings over I 90 for the bike routes.
Event options and formats include:
- The Bert: Run 6 miles, Bike 24 miles, Run 3 miles.
- The Jay: Run 3 miles, Bike 12 miles, Run 1.5 miles.
- The Nellie: Run 3 miles, Bike 8 miles.

Relay options are available for each main distance. Relay teams transfer an ankle timing chip in the transition area and must submit signed waivers for all team members. Team sizes vary by event with up to three members allowed for the longest distance and up to two for some shorter distances. Road bikes are preferred and helmets are required for the bike sections. Some events note additional equipment requirements such as a blinking road light for bikes in specific relay divisions.
There is one aid station in the conservation area and additional water and aid at the transition area. Packet pickup is offered the day before at the Billings Scheels Community Room and on race day at the timing table. A portion of event proceeds supports ZooMontana’s on site veterinary clinic and related animal health initiatives. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
