St Edmund Way Ultra

The St Edmund Way Ultra is a new winter endurance event scheduled for December 2026. The route covers a distance of 80 miles, traversing through the counties of Essex, Suffolk, and Norfolk. The course begins in Manningtree and concludes in Brandon. Participants have a total time limit of 28 hours to complete the distance.

The event features several progress markers along the route:

  • 80 miles: The primary distance starting in Manningtree and finishing in Brandon.

Participants are required to carry a mandatory kit throughout the event to ensure safety in winter conditions. This equipment includes a waterproof jacket and trousers with taped seams, a headtorch with a minimum of 100 lumens, a mobile phone, and a spare long-sleeve base layer. Additionally, runners must carry at least one litre of fluids, 1000 calories of food, a warm hat, gloves, and a survival bag or foil emergency bivvy. Navigation must be managed via maps or a GPS device.

Organizers provide live tracking for all participants, which includes an emergency SOS function. A bus transport service is available to take runners from the finish location to the start before the event begins. The race is open to individuals aged 18 and over. Registration typically closes two weeks before the event date, or earlier if capacity is reached. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
