Sri Chinmoy Mara-Fun Relays
The Sri Chinmoy Mara-Fun Relays is a marathon event held at Centennial Park, Sydney on 18 October. Participants may run the full 42.2 km solo or form relay teams of two, three or four to cover the distance collectively. The course is a 4 km loop through the ponds and groves of the park's southwestern precinct; the full marathon is made up of ten full loops plus an initial 2.2 km partial loop.
Organisers provide electronic chip timing with full splits for every leg. For relay teams the timing chip is attached to a team baton; the baton must be carried while running and exchanged within the designated change-over zone at the end of every loop. No relay runner may run consecutive legs. Each team member must complete at least one leg and may run up to six legs. Teams must nominate a team name and a team captain on the entry form. There is a $20 fee for non return of any baton or timing chip.
Support on course includes a refreshment station supplying water, sports drink and fruit approximately every 2 km. Registrations and the start/finish area are located alongside the McKay Sportsground within Centennial Park. The event includes awards for top solo finishers by age group, medallions for all solo finishers, and team awards by division and age category. A full post event pancake breakfast is provided for all participants. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
