About the race

The NYCRUNS Squirrel Stampede 10K takes place on Governors Island, offering a course with views of the New York Harbor and the Manhattan skyline. This event is the seventh edition of the race on the island, a location historically known as Nutten Island.

The 10K course consists of two loops around the island and is USATF-certified. Participants are organized into a pace-based corral system, with assignments ranging from letters AA through F based on the pace indicated in their runner profile.

All entries include the race itself, an official technical fabric shirt, and ferry transportation to and from the island for runners and their guests. A festival area located near the ferry terminal serves as the central hub for bib and shirt pickup, bag storage, and portable restrooms. Following the event, participants are provided with water, electrolyte fluids, fresh fruit, and bagels.

Access to the event is provided via the Governors Island Ferry departing from the Battery Maritime Building in Manhattan. The race has a strict no-refunds and no-transfers policy, though members of the organizing club may withdraw for race credit. Strollers, dogs, and confetti cannons are not permitted on the course.

Awards are presented to the top three overall finishers and the top three finishers in various age categories for male, female, and non-binary runners. Participants also receive access to free digital race photos after the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
