NYCRUNS Squirrel Stampede 10K : Governors Island, September 12, 2026
The NYCRUNS Squirrel Stampede is a USATF-certified 10 km road race held on Governors Island. The course consists of two loops around the island and offers views of New York Harbor and Manhattan. This is the seventh running of the event.
Race entry includes ferry rides for the runner and accompanying guests, an official race tech shirt, and post-race food options that do not contain nuts. A nearby Festival Area, a short walk from the ferry terminal, houses bib and shirt pickup, bag check, portable bathrooms, and the start and finish zones.
NYCRUNS assigns start corrals by pace using letters AA through F; corral assignment appears on the bib. Bag check requires a single clear bag (provided if the bag is not clear, size 18" x 24"); organizers reserve the right to search bag contents. Hydration stations with water and electrolyte fluids are available on course and at the finish. Post-race refreshments include fresh fruit and bagels.
Bibs are available for pickup on race morning with a unique QR code; NYCRUNS members may receive mailed bibs at no cost if they register 20 or more days before the event and provide a U.S. mailing address. Non-members may add mailed bibs for an additional fee; shirts are not mailed.
Handcycle and wheelchair athletes are not advised to enter due to many turns on the course. Results are emailed and posted online. Awards are given to the top three male, female, and non-binary finishers overall by gun time, and to the top three in each age group by net time in the following groups: 19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70 and over.
A Governors Island 10K Challenge allows registration for three island 10Ks with pay-for-two pricing and a finisher pin for completing all three. Membership offers a 10% discount and other entry benefits; prices vary by registration date and membership status, with member fees beginning at $40.50 and non-member fees beginning at $45.
