The NYCRUNS Squirrel Stampede 10K is an annual running event held on Governors Island in New York Harbor. Historically known as Nutten Island, this location provides a setting removed from the typical city environment. The race consists of a 10 km course that completes two loops of the island. The route is USATF-certified and offers views of the New York Harbor and the city skyline.
Participants have access to the Festival Area located near the ferry terminal. This central hub serves as the site for bib and shirt collection, bag check, and restrooms. The start and finish lines are situated a short distance from this area. The race utilizes a pace-based corral system, with assignments determined by the personal profile information provided by the participants.
Available distances:
- 10 km
The event provides several amenities, including water and electrolyte stations along the course and at the finish. After completing the distance, refreshments such as fresh fruit and bagels are provided. Registration includes the ferry ride to the island for participants and their guests, a technical race shirt, and free race photos delivered via email. While the course is open to a wide range of runners, the organizers do not recommend handcycles or wheelchairs due to the number of turns. Bag check is available provided items fit within a single clear bag. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
