Squirrel Run XXVIII

The Squirrel Run, also known as the 28th Annual Jimmy Kennedy Memorial Run for ALS, is a community sports event held at Pageant Field on Merrymount Parkway in Quincy. The event serves as a fundraiser with proceeds benefiting The Angel Fund for ALS Research. It commemorates Jimmy Kennedy, who passed away from ALS in 1997.

The event features several participation options for different ages and interest levels:

  • 5k run
  • 5k fitness walk
  • Children’s races, games, and rides

The 5k run and fitness walk are open to participants of all ages and abilities. All registrants receive a souvenir t-shirt, while the first 150 online registrations are provided with a free goodie bag. On-site registration is available on the morning of the event. Participants can pick up their race bibs on the morning of the event at the venue, though early pickup options may be announced closer to the date.

Beyond the races, the event includes a family fun day. Children’s activities, including games and rides, take place alongside the main athletic events. Break Rock Brewing Co. will be present at the venue to offer samples and sell beverages. Awards including gift cards, merchandise, and apparel are presented to top finishers in various categories, including the overall top male and female, top three male and female students at the high school and middle school levels, and the top three finishers in age groups ranging from 19 to over 80. Every 25th runner in the 5k race also receives a prize. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
