Squatchy Hooky: Lake to Summit : event overview
Squatchy Hooky is a two-distance trail event held at Rockland Lake State Park, with start and finish at Parking Field #4 in Nyack, New York. The event offers two distinct courses:
- 5K paved loop around Rockland Lake, fully accessible for wheelchairs
- 10K rugged mountain trail up Hook Mountain via the Long Path, 1,300 ft elevation gain
The 5K loop is smooth, mostly flat, and passes several permanent restrooms. A dedicated 5K Wheelchair Division uses the same paved, accessible route. The 10K is a technical mountain course with rocky ledges, steep climbs and descents, sections with significant drop-offs near the Hook Mountain Summit, and no restrooms on the trail. The 10K includes one on-course aid station at mile 4.25 called 9W providing water, snacks, and Skratch; that aid station is not crew-accessible. Runners should note a 3.5 hour cutoff for all events; 10K participants must maintain the stated pace to meet the cutoff.
The course will be marked with colored ribbons and directional arrows; yellow/black ribbons mark the 5K and pink ribbons mark the 10K. Capacity is capped at 200 participants across both events. The event is co-hosted with the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference. Dogs are not allowed on the course.
