Squatchy Hooky: Lake to Summit
Squatchy Hooky is a paired 5K and 10K event held at Rockland Lake State Park, starting and finishing at Parking Field #4, 153 Rockland Lake Rd, Valley Cottage, NY 10989. The event offers two distinct course types that use the park landscape.
- 10K trail
- 5K paved loop, including wheelchair division
The 10K follows rugged sections of the Long Path up to Hook Mountain. The course includes approximately 1,300 ft of elevation gain across rocky terrain with steep climbs and descents, sections of scrambling, cliffs, and dangerous dropoffs near the Hook Mountain summit. There is one on-course aid station located at mile 4.25.
The 5K is a paved loop around Rockland Lake that circles the shoreline. The loop is mostly flat, offers wide-open water views and parkland scenery, and is described as fully accessible for runners, walkers, families, and athletes using wheelchairs. There are no on-course aid stations for the 5K.
Registration options include a paid 10K entry and paid 5K and wheelchair entries, plus a hardship entry with no fee for those experiencing financial hardship. The hardship process includes issuance of a registration code and the option to request full or partial scholarship support. A community fund donation option is available.
