Squatchy Hooky: Lake to Summit
Squatchy Hooky: Lake to Summit offers two distinct course formats at Rockland Lake State Park, with start and finish at Parking Field #4 in Valley Cottage, NY. One course follows a paved loop around Rockland Lake and the other follows rugged mountain trails up Hook Mountain via the Long Path.
- 10K
- 5K
The 5K is a paved loop around the lake, described as fully accessible and suitable for runners, walkers, families, and athletes using wheelchairs. The path circles the shoreline with wide-open views of the water, parkland, and generally gentle, mostly flat terrain. There are no on-course aid stations for the 5K.
The 10K is a trail run and hike that uses technical trails and stone ledges to reach the Hook Mountain summit. The course includes steep climbs and descents, rocky and rugged terrain, areas that require scrambling, and dangerous dropoffs near the summit section. The 10K accumulates about 1,300 ft of elevation gain and includes one on-course aid station at mile 4.25.
A separate Hardship Entry option exists for participants with financial need. Organizers will provide a registration code after request and offer full or partial scholarships. Community members can contribute to the Squatch Community Fund. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
