Event Overview
The Spring Scramble 5K is a community event in its 20th year. It is organized by the UAB Pediatric Residency Program through its Community, Outreach, and Advocacy Program called Coat of Arms. All proceeds support the Coat of Arms organization, which funds initiatives for food insecurity, literacy, education, and health promotion for children in the Birmingham community and Alabama.
Events and Details
Participants can choose from three event formats:
- In-Person 5K: A 5 km walk or run.
- Virtual 5K: A remote participation option.
- 8 and Under Un-timed Fun Run: A non-competitive run for children aged 8 and under.
The event takes place at Trak Shak Homewood, located at 2839 18th St S in Birmingham, Alabama. Packet pickup is available the week before the event at UAB/Children's of Alabama and on the day of the race.
Registration and Inclusions
The in-person and virtual 5K registrations cost $35. The 8 and Under Fun Run costs $8. Registration for a guaranteed T-shirt size closes on April 1, 2026.
The in-person 5K registration includes a race T-shirt, race packet, and a meal. The 8 and Under Fun Run includes a T-shirt, meal, and medal for all participants; this run is not timed and does not include a race packet. The virtual registration includes a race T-shirt and race packet shipped at no extra cost. T-shirts can also be purchased separately.
A pre-race party with a door prize giveaway, a kid's corner, and music begins before the main event. Friends, family, and pets are welcome to attend. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
