Whiskey and Wine 5K
The Running Birds organizes the third annual Whiskey and Wine 5K at Oak Mountain State Park in Pelham, Alabama. The event uses a single loop course that is clearly marked with signs and flagging tape and passes by Lake Tranquility. The route includes some elevation.
The event combines a standard 5K with optional tasting stations. There are three whiskey tastings and three wine tastings placed along the course for a total of six tastings. Selections of whiskey and wine are kept secret until the event day. Participants who choose to taste must wear a custom wristband issued at packet pickup; wristbands are required to access tastings and will be collected at the finish in exchange for a bottle. All participants must be 21 or older. There will be no alcohol sales onsite.
There are no awards for finishing first, second, or third. The number of bottles at the finish matches the number of registered runners, so availability of a particular bottle depends on finish order. One aid station with water will be located at a tasting site and another at the finish. Packet pickup and race day check-in take place at the Redbud Pavilion; photo identification is required for age verification and there is no early check-in. No refunds are offered, but entries may be transferred to another runner. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
