Spring Lake Memorial Classic 2 Mile / 5K / 10K
The Spring Lake Memorial Classic is a multi-distance road event held at The Arc Nature Coast in Brooksville, Florida. The courses run through eastern Hernando County along tree-lined roads and include sustained hilly sections that organizers describe as some of the toughest hills in Florida. The route passes through wooded areas with native plants and wildlife, including oaks, magnolias, hickory and cedar trees, and sightings of red hawks, bald eagles, wild turkeys, pileated woodpeckers, bobcats, foxes, coyotes and white-tail deer.
Proceeds from the event support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The event program lists three separate race distances and includes chip timing for participants in the 2 Mile category, with all 2 Mile finishers receiving a walking medal.
Awards for the 5K and 10K are given by age group, three deep in five year brackets for both male and female divisions. Champion awards are also listed for Masters ages 40 and over, Grand-Masters ages 50 and over, and Senior Grand-Masters ages 65 and over. A runner may be eligible for only one award and champion winners are removed from age group standings after champion determinations.
