Event overview
The Spring Burke Lake event offers trail distances of 5k, 10k, and Half marathon at Burke Lake Park in Fairfax Station, VA. The courses are trail routes that are described as fairly flat and well maintained, with some roots to navigate. The 5k and 10k are a single out-and-back route; the half marathon is the out-and-back route run twice. Walkers are welcome. A virtual race option is available.
Race details and services
Runners receive a finisher’s medal, a technical Dri-Fit event shirt (shirts guaranteed for those registered before April 29), and chip timing. Live race results will be posted online and final results with series points are published the Monday after the race. Runner tracking via SMS is available during registration. Photos taken by staff are posted the Tuesday after the event.
Water stations are provided as follows:
- Half marathon: 9 stations at approximate mile markers 1.1, 3.1, 3.5, 5.1, 6.55, 7.65, 9.65, 10, and 12.
- 10k: 3 stations at approximate mile markers 1.1, 3.1, and 5.1.
- 5k: 2 stations at approximate mile markers 1.1 and 2. Gatorade will be available at some stations.
Packet pickup is available at the event. Race day registration is offered, though event shirts for race-day registrants are not guaranteed.
Competition, charity, and policies
Points from this event count toward Bishop’s Events year-long series and the Spring Series, including the Back of the Pack series for higher-average pace runners. Awards are given to the top three men and women overall and to first and second place in standard age categories from 19 & under through 70+. The event benefits Blood Cancer United. The organizer states the race operates in all weather; officials may delay, change, or cancel the event if necessary. Parking and meeting location are at Shelter A in Burke Lake Park.
