Spring Backyard Burn Trail Run - Laurel Hill
The Spring Backyard Burn Trail Run at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton, VA takes place on Sunday March 15, 2026. The event is produced by EX2 Adventures and stages from the ball field at the southern end of the arts center.
The course runs through forested and open meadow singletrack across roughly 1600 acres of former prison grounds. The race starts and ends under the old guard towers at the Workhouse Arts Center. Most trails are singletrack composed of dirt and crushed stone. Only short pavement sections occur at the beginning and end of the course. The route has no extended climbs but includes many short ups and downs.

- 5.4 miles (1 lap) : 350 feet elevation gain
- 10 miles (2 laps) : 700 feet elevation gain
Race services include aid stations, medical support, post-race food, awards, give-aways, and a race t-shirt. Finisher medals are an optional add-on with a pre-order price and an on-site price; a special series medal is provided to racers who complete all four races. A supervised kids program runs on race day and includes a short kids race. The event lists a charity partnership with Homestretch.
Selected race rules: no in-ear headphones, race numbers must be worn on the front, outside assistance only within 50 meters of aid stations, no pets, pacers, or strollers on course, and racers must stay on designated trails. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
