Spirit of the West 5K : 2026
The Spirit of the West 5K is a community fundraising run and walk held as part of Westernaires Community Week. The event includes a 5K run/walk and a separate Family Fun Dash. It is the sixth annual running of the event.
The 5K follows a hilly loop through the Sixth Avenue West neighborhood and returns to the starting point. Festivities and a swag bag are provided to each registrant. Awards are given to first through third place finishers in each age category, and additional prizes are presented for best costumes.
The event benefits Westernaires, a youth riding organization based in Golden, Colorado, founded in 1949. Westernaires is composed of over 1,000 young people aged 9 to 19 and focuses on horsemanship and leadership development through family participation.
Race start and finish are at Kyffin Elementary School, 205 Flora Way, Golden, CO 80401.
Volunteer roles include registration, handing out refreshments, giving directions, providing First Aid, and distributing swag bags. Sponsorship opportunities are available, with listed starting levels beginning at $100.
