Event overview
The Sawmill Trail Runs is a trail race held at Staunton State Park in Pine, Colorado, with the start/finish at the Ranch Hand Group Picnic Area (12102 S Elk Creek Rd). Distances offered are:
- 50k
- 16-Mile
- 8-Mile
Runner capacity is 250 combined across all distances. Time limits are 12 hours for the 50k and 11 hours for the 8- and 16-mile events. The park terrain ranges from about 8,100 feet to over 10,000 feet in elevation; the event area is generally at 8,000 feet and higher. Traction devices such as micro-spikes are permitted if conditions allow, and snowshoes are allowed when snow depths exceed 6". In deep-snow scenarios the 50k first loop may be closed and 50k participants may be directed to run the 16-mile course twice.
Logistics and policies
Included with registration are a gender-specific race shirt and a finisher medal, subject to availability for late registrations. Well-stocked aid stations are provided along the course. Drop bags are allowed only at the start/finish area and must be removed after the event; abandoned bags are disposed of. Spectators are permitted only at the start/finish and must pay applicable state park entry fees. Crews and pacers are prohibited by permit. Parking inside the park is limited; most participants use an off-site park-and-ride and volunteer-run shuttle (park-and-ride address provided by organizers). Awards include a unique finisher’s award and special recognitions; podium and age-group awards are not provided and awards will not be mailed.
