Sawmill Trail Runs
The Sawmill Trail Runs take place at Staunton State Park in Pine, CO with the start and finish at the Ranch Hand Group Picnic Area. The event offers three distance options:
- 50k
- 16-Mile
- 8-Mile
Runner capacity is limited to 250 combined across all distances. Time limits are 12 hours for the 50k and 11 hours for the 8- and 16-Mile events. The course traverses mountain terrain within Staunton State Park, which ranges from grassy meadows near 8,100 feet to granite cliffs above 10,000 feet. Participants should expect variable winter conditions at 8,000 feet and higher; average seasonal temperatures are listed as an average high of 44˚ and an average low of 17˚. Traction devices such as micro-spikes are permitted when conditions allow, and snowshoes may be used if snow depths exceed 6 inches. In deep snow, the 50k course may be modified so runners repeat the 16-Mile loop.
Parking inside the park is limited; most participants use an off-site park-and-ride and shuttle service. Drop bags are allowed at the start/finish area only and must be retrieved at the event. Aid stations are provided and described as well stocked. Volunteers receive HPRS credits for their service. Awards include a unique finisher’s award and event-specific recognitions; awards are not mailed. The event operates under permits from Staunton State Park and Colorado Parks & Wildlife.
