Spirit of the Valley 5k
The Spirit of the Valley event takes place in Grand Junction, Colorado, featuring both running and rolling categories for participants. The race starts and finishes at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, located at the intersection of 27 ½ Road and Cortland Avenue. The event includes the following distances:
- 5 km Run
- 5 km Roll
- 1 km Run
- 1 km Roll
The 5 km races are timed competitions. Participants include runners, walkers, and individuals using mobility devices for the rolling categories. The event features live rock 'n roll music and provides a sack brunch for all participants and volunteers. Additional meal tickets can be purchased at the venue.
Registration includes a t-shirt for those who sign up early. Vetted and trained childcare services are available at the church on a donation basis. Proceeds from the event support two local organizations: the VA Recreational Therapy Program on the Western Slope and Hilltop's Latimer House. The VA program provides recreational opportunities like fishing, kayaking, and biking for disabled veterans. Latimer House offers emergency safe houses, advocacy, and 24 hour crisis lines for individuals who have experienced domestic violence or sexual assault in Western Colorado.
