Spirit of Syllamo : December 13, 2025
Spirit of Syllamo is an ultra endurance trail event held in Norfork, Arkansas, at Misty Mornings (309 Riverview Trail). The 2025 edition uses a new venue and substantially modified routes after an EF4 tornado and subsequent flooding in March 2025 damaged large parts of the original trail system. There are three distance options:
- 100 miles
- 35 miles
- 10k (about 9 miles)
Course, logistics, and safety
The terrain is highly varied: rugged singletrack that is rocky, steep, and densely forested. Elevation devices often record about 170 feet of gain per mile, though the course may feel like 200+ feet per mile due to short, punchy climbs. Water crossings are present; 9-mile runners do not have crossings, 35-mile runners are a maybe, and 100-mile runners should expect multiple crossings (including Cole Fork and Spring Creek at approximate miles noted in the runner packet). Aid stations are typically spaced widely and can range from about 5 to 13+ miles apart. Standard aid offerings include electrolyte drink, water, sports gels, sandwiches, fruit, and warm cooked items; basic first aid is available. Drop bags are permitted for longer distances, must be labeled, and are returned to the start/finish. Crews should note steep, narrow roads and limited cell coverage; a 4x4 is recommended for some locations. Course flagging will be more extensive in 2025, with ribbons at eye level and extra signs at major intersections. Cutoffs: 9-mile 4 hours, 35-mile 11 hours, 100-mile 34 hours.
