The SpeakUp5k is a community event held in Richmond, Virginia, focused on supporting teen mental health. The race takes place at Byrd Park on the Vita Course and offers both in-person and virtual participation options. The event is characterized by various activity elements along the course, including music, bubbles, and designated fun zones.
Participants can choose between the following event distances:
- 5 km (Byrd Park course)
- 5 km (Virtual run or walk)
The in-person event features organized starting corrals where participants line up according to their mile pace. Volunteers assist with pace signs, and specific sections are allocated for walkers and those with baby strollers. A bag check service is available for participants to secure their belongings during the run.
A post-race area provides water, snacks, music, and vendor displays. For those participating virtually, registration includes a participant packet sent by mail, allowing individuals to complete their 3.1 miles at a location of their choosing. The event utilizes a team-based structure with designated meet-up areas marked by balloons. Please note that pets are not permitted on the course or within Byrd Park and Maymont for this event.
