Bear Mountain Trail Challenge
The Bear Mountain Trail Challenge takes place at Bear Mountain State Park on the west bank of the Hudson River, about an hour outside New York City. The event date is May 2, 2026, and it is scheduled during spring. Average temperature for the event is listed as 13ºC / 56ºF and average altitude is 244 m / 800 ft. The course follows singletrack with rolling climbs and technical footing through dense forest and sections with tree cover. Racers will encounter rocky and rooted trails, leaf-covered sections, mud and slippery rocks, occasional stream crossings, and short, punchy climbs. Some higher points on the route open to views of the surrounding area. The route alternates between more runnable open sections and very technical stretches.

Half marathon and 50K participants are required to carry 20 ounces of water. Intermediate race cutoffs are safety based and will be indicated by race staff and volunteers. Interactive course maps and elevation profiles are available for each distance. Volunteer roles are available and include opportunities to earn race credits and merchandise.
