Event Overview
The Spartan Sprint 5K and Family Fun Run is part of the Elgin Community College (ECC) Homecoming Week 2026. This inaugural event takes place on the Elgin Community College Campus and is open to students, alumni, employees, and community members. Participants can choose between two primary events:
- Spartan Sprint 5K: A timed race for participants aged 11 and older.
- Family Fun Run: A non-timed run designed for families and children.
Course Details
The race takes place on an all-terrain course located at the Lakeside Patio area of Building B. The event proceeds rain or shine, except in cases of unsafe weather conditions. The campus is located at 1700 Spartan Drive in Elgin, Illinois.
Participant Information
Registered adults receive a long-sleeve T-shirt, a bib with a timing element, water, and snacks. Children's registration includes a bib without timing, a foam Spartan sword, water, and snacks, with T-shirts provided as supplies last. For those under the age of four, participation is free.
Post-Race Activities
Following the conclusion of the races, an awards ceremony is held. The event continues with the Welcome Home Spartan Family Picnic. This community gathering features food trucks where lunch is available for purchase, and attendees are also permitted to bring their own meals. Participants are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs for the picnic. Proceeds from the event support the Elgin Community College Foundation, which provides scholarships and educational initiatives for students.
