Sowebo Gateway 5K
The Sowebo Gateway 5K, formerly the SoWeBo Landmark 5K, is a community 5K race held in Southwest Baltimore with a course that begins on the trail near the playground at Middle Branch Park. The route passes the Baltimore Rowing Center, follows Waterview Avenue and Kloman Street, continues past new townhouses and park development, returns along the waterside trail, runs beneath the Hanover Street Bridge toward the Maryland Vietnam Veterans Memorial, and finishes on a park trail back at Middle Branch Park.
The event includes music, refreshments, an awards ceremony, and an on-site resource and vendor fair. Medals are awarded to first, second, and third place overall male and female finishers, and medals are given in 13 male and 13 female age categories plus a stroller category. Sowebo Gateway 5K t-shirts are provided to all 5K participants.
Organizers state that race proceeds support youth sports, wellness programming, and community initiatives led by the Southwest Sports and Fitness Alliance. The event has operated since 2011 and has recorded participant counts in recent years, with 220 participants reported in 2024 and 236 registered runners in 2025. The 2026 edition is presented in collaboration with the South Baltimore Gateway Partnership and expands the course into South Baltimore and the Middle Branch area.
