South Padre Island Muzicians Run 5k/10k : Event overview
The South Padre Island Muzicians Run is a music-focused timed event offering three distances:
- 1 Mile
- 5K
- 10K
The event takes place at Beach Waterpark (previously Schlitterbahn Waterpark) on South Padre Island, Texas, and benefits the South Padre Island Birding, Nature Center & Alligator Sanctuary. The 5K and 10K are chip timed and include age-group awards and overall awards for top female and male finishers in each distance.
Live mariachi bands and other musicians perform along the out-and-back, flat courses, with performers positioned about every half mile. The route is open for 1 hour and 45 minutes; a sag vehicle will assist participants who do not meet course time limits. Water will be provided without disposable cups; at least two refill stations are located at mariachi/music stops.
Packet pickup and an expo occur at the Beach Waterpark on race day, and an after-party follows the finish with a mariachi concert. Every participant receives a 5-inch finisher medal, a commemorative tek shirt available in unisex sizes XS to 5XL, a race bib and decal, and a logo cup redeemable for a free beer or margarita and a taco on site. Drawstring bags are available for early packet pickup attendees. A virtual option is offered for contiguous U.S. addresses; virtual packets are mailed around the event date.
