South 100

The South 100 is a team trail running event in Cornwall. The route for this edition spans from Mount Edgcumbe to Coverack. This event is designed for a small group of five runners who navigate the course together. The primary objective is for all five participants to assist each other in finishing the distance within a 36-hour time limit.

Participants must meet specific qualifying criteria to enter. Runners are required to have completed at least one 100 km race in under 20 hours and must have experience with night running in an event setting. Registration is open to individuals over 18 years of age who are medically fit for long-distance trail running.

The event structure includes the following logistics:

  • 100 miles

Runners are transported from a central base in Camborne to the start point and are brought back to the base from the finish line. The organizers provide a crew bus that meets the group approximately every five to six miles. While participants must supply their own primary nutrition, the crew provides supplementary water, soft drinks, and snacks. If the route involves ferry crossings, the crew transports the runners around to the point where the coast path resumes.

Specific equipment is mandatory for all runners, including a high-quality waterproof jacket, windproof trousers, a hydration system of at least one liter, a bivvy bag, and two light sources. Participants must also install a tracking application on their mobile phones for safety and progress monitoring. Runners who successfully complete the course receive a commemorative buckle.
