South 100 : Whythra Bys Vyken 100 milers
South 100 is a team 100 mile trail and coastal event in Cornwall where groups of five runners start together and aim to finish as a unit. The organisers currently offer three route options: Bude to Gwithian, Coverack to Porthtowan, and Mount Edgcumbe to Coverack. The run is self navigation and must be completed within 36 hours. Runners are transported from the base in Camborne to the start and are crewed throughout the event, with crew meeting the team approximately every 5 to 6 miles; ferry crossings are managed by moving the team around to the continuing coast path.
Entry requires prior experience: completion of a 100 km event in under 20 hours and prior experience of night running. Participants must supply an emergency contact who can collect them if required, and all entrants are asked to install a tracker app used by the crew bus. Major medical incidents will stop the event; the crew will handle medical situations and includes personnel with first aid qualifications.
Each entry costs £110 non refundable. Participants who finish receive a Whythra Bys Vyken 100 miler buckle. A detailed mandatory kit list is provided and includes items such as a quality waterproof jacket (10000 mm minimum), bivvy bag, headtorch with at least 200 lumens and spare batteries, hydration system, first aid kit and emergency money. Participants must be medically able and over 18; severe weather warnings from the Met Office can lead to cancellation or a virtual event.
