Something to Talk About

Something to Talk About is a technical trail running event held at the Avon Tyrrell Outdoor Activity Centre in the New Forest. The course is situated near a Grade I listed manor house and consists of a looped route through forest terrain. Participants navigate loops that are 3.28 miles (approximately 5.3 km) in length.

The event features a flexible format where runners select their total distance on the day of the event. Options range from a single loop to multiple laps reaching ultra-marathon distances. A medal is awarded to all participants who complete at least one full loop. The following distance categories are available based on the loop format:

  • 5 km (one loop)
  • 10 km
  • Half Marathon
  • Marathon
  • Ultra-marathon

The event is licensed by the Trail Running Association (TRA) and conducted under UK Athletics (UKA) rules. Due to these regulations, specific distance restrictions apply to participants aged 20 or under. The general entry is open to individuals aged 18 and over.

An aid station is located at the start and finish of each lap, providing a selection of sweet and savoury food items along with drinks. This is a cupless event, so participants must bring their own reusable bottles or cups. Facilities at the venue include toilets, showers, changing areas, and a designated space for personal belongings. Camping is available on-site through the outdoor centre. The nearest train station is Hinton Admiral, and limited parking is available for those who travel by car. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
