Sombrero Sizzler
Sombrero Sizzler is a timed running and rucking event held in Jacksonville, FL, on a 1.25 mile paved loop. The loop surface is three quarters asphalt and one quarter concrete walking path with a short grassy section at the end. Pine trees line the course and provide shade for much of the day. The venue is a former active military base, Cecil Field. The course is flat with minimal turns and includes five wide right turns.
Race options are timed events of:
- 3 hours timed running or rucking
- 6 hours timed running or rucking
- 9 hours timed running or rucking
- 12 hours timed running or rucking
A relay team option is offered for the 6 hour event. Relay teams comprise four members of any gender and are limited to ten teams. There is one main aid station at the pavilion start/finish area offering standard ultra foods and Skratch electrolyte. Grilled food will be available during the event, including breakfast items, burgers with vegan options, brats, Italian sausage, and bacon.
Each participant receives a custom medal. Overall awards are given to the top three in each event along with select special awards; team awards depend on participation. Parking is along the road into the pavilion area so vehicles pass by the loop. Local hotels and restaurants are within three to five miles.
