SOLES for All Souls 5K Race / 2K Walk : Stony Brook, NY
This event offers a community 5K race and a 2K walk through Stony Brook Village, featuring rolling hills, tree-lined streets, and views of the harbor. The course is professionally timed by Schwab's Second Wind.
Proceeds support the Handicapped Accessibility Project to make the Stanford White-designed chapel and its programming accessible. Programming at the chapel includes concerts, Native American drumming, poetry, and daily visitation. The event also collects food donations through a LEND A HAND - BRING A CAN drive for local hunger relief.
Registration and bib pickup take place at the Reboli Center for the Arts, 64 Main Street; pre-registrants are guaranteed a free tee shirt. Day-of walk-ins not using Active.com may pay by check or cash. An award ceremony with medal presentations and prizes follows the race at the registration area.
Practical information listed for participants includes recommended parking in the Town of Brookhaven lot adjacent to the Stony Brook Yacht Club. Children under 13 who race or walk must be accompanied by an adult. Race-day stretching is provided by a physical therapist from Systems In Motion Physical Therapy.
