The Smugglers Way

The Smugglers Way is a supported, self navigation trail run on Saturday 25 April 2026 that crosses Cornwall from the north coast village of Boscastle to the south coast town of Looe. The route passes through Bodmin Moor, over Brown Willy and several other tors, and goes through wooded fields and valleys.

Registration takes place at the Riverside Hotel in Boscastle. The finish is at the Hannafore Point Hotel, which offers shelter, seating, toilets and food and drink from the bar, plus sea views and an outdoor terrace in fine weather. There is a large car park near Boscastle and parking available along Hannafore by the finish.

There are three staffed checkpoints along the route. Checkpoints provide fluids and a selection of salt, sugar and savoury snacks. All competitors receive a GPS tracker at registration and must check in at every checkpoint and at the finish.

A mandatory kit list is enforced and kit checks take place at registration. Required items include a compass or compass app, head torch, whistle, bivvy or survival bag (not a foil blanket), high visibility top or reflective strips, lightweight waterproof top, long trousers, hat, nutrition, a basic first aid kit, at least 1 litre of fluid, a spare lightweight warm top in a waterproof bag, a charged mobile phone with power pack, cash for emergencies and a collapsible cup.

The event has an overall cut off of 13.5 hours, a minimum age of 18 and awards for the top three male and top three female finishers. An optional minibus transfer from the finish back to Boscastle is available. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
