Coastal Running Event in Kent
The Smugglers Run takes place at Minnis Bay in Birchington, Kent. The event offers two distinct distances along a coastal setting that is historically connected to local smuggling lore. Both routes follow the seafront, providing views of the water and the surrounding landscape as participants travel between Minnis Bay and Reculver.
The course is characterized by a flat profile, involving sections on the sea wall and tarmac. According to participant feedback, the route is primarily an out-and-back layout. Some sections may involve grass at the start or finish areas. The event features a pirate theme, which includes themed actors, parrots, and the use of cannons or gun crews during the proceedings.
Available distances include:
- 5 km
- 10 km
The event utilizes electronic chip timing for all participants. Results are uploaded to a live feed, allowing individuals to view their finishing times shortly after crossing the line. Every person who completes the course receives a specially commissioned medal.
The venue at Minnis Green provides several facilities for participants and spectators, including a car park, toilets, and refreshment options. For safety and regulatory compliance, minimum age requirements are in place: participants must be at least 11 years old for the 5 km and 15 years old for the 10 km.
