Event details
The Smoky Mountain Relay takes place on April 24, 2026, with the course starting at the Pisgah Ranger Station/Visitor Center on Pisgah Highway, just outside Brevard, North Carolina, in Pisgah National Forest. The relay covers more than 200 miles and is divided into 36 legs (36 transition areas). Teams may register as 6-person, 9-person, or 12-person teams to split the 36 legs across the course through Western North Carolina.
Registration, included services and policies
Registration is limited to the first 60 teams. The registration fee covers 30+ hours of racing on the permitted, marked course, including traffic control signs, runner-on-road signs, directional signs and trail marking; medical staff; professional timing; personalized race bibs; finisher race shirts, pint glasses and medals; coffee at the start; and a free hot breakfast at Exchange 30. The finish area includes live music and a beverage from the event beer sponsor, with non-alcoholic options available.
Organizers state a no-refund policy, with an exception if the event reaches the maximum number of teams and a waiting list exists. Transfers are handled through the event transfer feature. Organizers offer a 10% discount for teams that meet eligibility categories (for example, teams with at least 50% active or retired military members, 50% collegiate members, all-female teams, or teams composed entirely of non-profit or company members).
