Event overview
The Smoky Mountain Relay is a team relay in Pisgah National Forest near Pisgah Forest, North Carolina, on April 24, 2026. The course covers over 200 miles and is divided into 36 legs. The route begins at the Pisgah Ranger Station/Visitor Center and passes through Western North Carolina terrain. Teams may register as 6 person, 9 person, or 12 person teams.
Entry, services and policies
Registration is limited to the first 60 teams. Team captain entry fees vary by team size and season; current examples show starting prices of about $1,029 for a 6-person team, $1,446 for a 9-person team, and $1,799 for a 12-person team, with higher prices in later registration windows. Organizers offer a 10% discount for teams that meet certain composition criteria, and individual team member sign-up is free once a team is created.
The registration fee includes more than 30 hours of racing on the marked, permitted course, traffic control and directional signs, medical staff, personalized race bibs, professional timing, finisher shirts, finisher pint glasses and medals, coffee at the start, a free hot breakfast at Exchange 30, and a finish line party with live music and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage options. The event has a no-refund policy; transfers are handled through the event transfer process. Sponsors include Nantahala Outdoor Center, Wicked Weed Brewing, Kick It Events, Mountain Running Company, Izzy's Coffee Den, and the Forest Service.
