Event overview

The Smith Point Sprint Triathlon takes place on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at Smith Point County Park in Shirley, NY (1 William Floyd Parkway). The event offers multiple entry types: Individual Triathlon, Triathlon Relay, High School Individual (ages 14-18), High School Relay, AquaBike, and Bike Run - NO SWIM. The Individual Triathlon is open to ages 12 and up; some relay and high school events note age minimums.

All participants receive a finisher medal. Participants who register after July 28 are not guaranteed an event shirt.

Course and logistics

The race format combines a swim, a bike, and a run. Distances described by the organizer include:

  • 500 m swim in Narrow Bay
  • 10.2 mile bike course over the Smith Point Bridge (two loops on William Floyd Parkway)
  • 5K run finishing at the Atlantic Ocean

Organizers changed the bike course to two loops on William Floyd Parkway to increase police coverage and on-course safety. Event photos are provided free by Endurance Sports Photography Long Island and will be posted to the event Facebook page and RunSignUp, searchable by bib number or name.

Bib placement

The organizer advises placing bibs and decals so the bib number is clearly visible for photo tagging. Recommended placements include upper right arm and opposite left calf, front of helmet, bike frame near the handlebars or seat tube, and front chest or abdomen. Optionally, participants may mark both arms and legs for extra coverage. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
