Smiley Sprint Triathlon
The Smiley Sprint Triathlon is a non-profit sprint-distance triathlon held at Clemmons West Pool, 3376 Middlebrook Dr., Clemmons, NC. The event follows a short-course format with these distances:
- 300 m swim
- 12 mile bike
- 5K run
Race categories include Age Group, Novice, Aquabike, Relay Team, Assisted Athlete, Athena (participants 165+ lbs), and Clydesdale (participants 220+ lbs). Most individual categories list a registration fee of $84.00; the Relay Team fee is $113.00. General registration has sold out and 25 charity slots were added; no further registrations will be taken once those charity slots are filled.
The event continues a local triathlon tradition and is organized by a team that includes Ironman triathletes with a combined 100 Ironman finishes. Proceeds are returned to the race or directed to local charities, with a priority for brain cancer initiatives. Support for first-time participants includes a concierge team on race day, first-timers recognition at the awards ceremony, and a triathlon and transition clinic at packet pickup. There is also an opportunity to participate in a Triathlon 101 training program offered through Fleet Feet Sports; that program includes race registration and a USA Triathlon license.
