Smiley Sprint Triathlon
The Smiley Sprint Triathlon is part of a weekend triathlon festival held in July with a Kids triathlon on Saturday and the Smiley Sprint on Sunday at Clemmons West Pool in the Forsyth County / Winston-Salem area. The event is organized as a nonprofit and returns proceeds to the race or to local charities with priority given to cancer initiatives.
Distances:
- 300 meter pool swim
- 20 K bike
- 5K run
The swim takes place in a meter pool with staggered starts seeded by submitted 100 yard swim times; starts are spaced by 15 seconds. The bike is a two-loop, 20 K route on rolling rural roads leaving the pool area on Middlebrook Drive and using Idols Road, Dock Davis and Hampton Roads. Roads remain open to traffic and law enforcement will provide intersection safety; Clemmons Bicycle Shop offers sag support. The run is a 5K on paved roads inside the Clemmons West neighborhood and finishes with a championship reception.
The event frequently attracts both experienced triathletes and first timers. First-timers receive recognition at the awards ceremony and a triathlon and transition clinic is offered at packet pickup. A concierge team is available throughout race day to assist participants. Participants agree to permit use of photographs and video taken during the event for publicity. Participant benefits listed by the organizers include custom medals and tech shirts, food and beverages, race photos, live finish line music, post-race massage, and personalized race numbers for early registrants.
