Slioch Horseshoe Hill Race
The Slioch Horseshoe Hill Race is a northwest hill race held on 14 June 2026 with base operations at Kinlochewe Village Hall, Kinlochewe. The course is approximately 20 km with around 1000 m of ascent and is classed as an AL category hill race that traverses rough, pathless mountain terrain. The route is unmarked and set checkpoints must be visited in order.
Competitor entry uses pre-selection lists to allocate places. The minimum age is 18 and entrants should have recorded previous experience of at least two category AM hill races in the last two years; waymarked trail races and skyraces are not considered equivalent. The published entry fee is £15.
A number of safety and navigation rules apply. Mandatory kit includes a full body waterproof cover, hat or buff, gloves, an appropriate map of the course, compass and whistle. Organisers may require a survival bag and long sleeve base layer depending on weather. GPS devices must not be used as a navigational aid. Accurate self-navigation in poor visibility is an expected competence.
Logistics notes state that registration is at the village hall and registration is approximately one mile from the race start area at Incheril. Kinlochewe has restricted parking; additional parking is available along the loch-side towards Gairloch and at the Beinn Eighe Visitor Centre. Post-race refreshments and prize giving return to the village hall. Course records are 1:54:17 (men) and 2:28:11 (women), both set in 2012.
