Slioch Horseshoe Hill Race
The Slioch Horseshoe Hill Race is an AL category hill race held in Kinlochewe. The course is approximately 20 km with about 1000 m of ascent and traverses rough, pathless mountain terrain. The route is unmarked and competitors must visit a series of set checkpoints in order, including Sgurr Dubh, Slioch Trig Point, Slioch Summit and Sgurr Tuill Bhan.
Entries are allocated using pre-selection lists and the entry fee is £15. Competitors must be at least 18 years old and should have recorded previous experience of at least two category AM hill races in the last two years; waymarked trail races and skyraces are not considered equivalent experience. Entrants should include suitable experience for vetting purposes.
Mandatory kit includes full body waterproof cover, hat or buff, gloves, an appropriate map of the course, a compass and a whistle. Organisers may require additional items such as a survival bag and a long sleeve base layer depending on weather and conditions. GPS devices must not be used as a navigational aid during the race.
Parking in Kinlochewe is limited; local parking options include spaces next to the community toilets, at the village hall, along the loch-side towards Gairloch and at the Beinn Eighe Visitor Centre.
