Slioch Horseshoe Hill Race
The Slioch Horseshoe Hill Race takes place on 14 June 2026 and is based at Kinlochewe Village Hall, Kinlochewe. The event is organised by Highland Hill Runners and uses a pre-selection process to allocate entries. Entry fee is £15 and the minimum age is 18. Competitors must have completed at least two category AM hill races in the previous two years; waymarked trail races and skyraces are not considered equivalent experience. The pre-selection procedure means initial entry does not require payment and places may be offered later.
The course is 20 km with approximately 1000 m of ascent. This is an AL category hill race over rough, pathless mountain terrain. The route is unmarked and set checkpoints must be visited in order; accurate navigation while alone and in poor visibility is essential. GPS devices must not be used as a navigational aid. Checkpoints to be visited in order are CP0 Bridge (NH 01227 65635); CP1 Sgurr Dubh (NH 01419 67456); CP2 Slioch Trig Point (NH 00502 68853); CP3 Slioch Summit (NH 00468 69072); CP4 Sgurr Tuill Bhan (NH 01867 68856); CP5 Burn Crossing (NH 02767 67259); CP6 Bridge (NH 01227 65635). A time cutoff is enforced at CP1 Sgurr Dubh.
Minimum mandatory kit includes a full body waterproof cover, hat or buff, gloves, an appropriate map of the course, compass and whistle. Organisers may require a survival bag and long sleeve base layer depending on conditions. Registration is held in the village hall, which is approximately a mile from the race start at Incheril. Parking in Kinlochewe is limited and there are parking options along the loch side and at the Beinn Eighe Visitor Centre. Post race refreshments and prize giving will be at the village hall.
