The Bà Duathlon

The Bà Duathlon is an endurance event held in Kinlochewe, located in the North West of Scotland. The course covers a total distance of 80 miles, beginning with an off-road mountain run before transitioning to a road cycling stage. Participants navigate remote and mountainous terrain with a total elevation gain of 3,000m across both disciplines.

The event structure consists of:

  • 18-mile off-road run featuring 1,000m of climbing and descending on mountain trails.
  • 62-mile road cycle on the West Coast, which includes a closed road section over the Bealach Na Bà.

The cycling portion of the duathlon merges with the route of The Bà Sportive. The ascent of the Bealach Na Bà is the longest road climb in the UK, and during the event, this section is restricted to motor vehicles. Participants must meet specific experience requirements to enter due to the nature of the terrain, and details of previous experience are required during the registration process.

Entry includes mountain safety cover, feed stations with hydration and snacks, and a bike shuttle service from the start line to the transition zone. The event also features timed segments for the uphill run and the Bealach bike climb. Following the competition, an end-of-event meal and a Ceilidh dance are provided for participants. Basic camping facilities for tents and vans are available in Kinlochewe from Friday evening until Sunday morning for an additional donation. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
