Event Overview

The Sid Valley Ring Half and Third Marathon takes place on the Sid Valley Ring walking route, a trail created through a partnership between Sidmouth Town Council and the Sid Vale Association. The event features two distinct distances:

  • Half Marathon
  • Third Marathon (13.5 km)

The Half Marathon begins with an uphill section and utilizes a combination of quiet country lanes and footpaths. Participants reach a maximum elevation of 236 meters before descending into the village of Sidbury. The course continues through the hamlet of Harcombe and climbs toward Dunscombe cliffs. This segment follows the coast path with views across Lyme Bay toward Portland and Berry Head. The route also passes through Salcombe Regis and includes various woodland sections before a final descent into Sidmouth.

The Third Marathon covers approximately 13.5 km. This route follows the River Sid upstream to Sidford and then merges with the Half Marathon course near the Harcombe area.

Technical Details

Both courses are fully marked with event markers to guide participants. The event is open to both runners and walkers. Participants have access to aid stations, with one station provided for the Third Marathon and two stations available for the Half Marathon. First aid cover is present for the duration of the event. All finishers receive a solid oak coaster upon completion. Portions of the proceeds from entry fees are donated toward the ongoing maintenance of the Sid Valley Ring trail.
