Shires and Spires
Shires and Spires is a multi distance running event based at Naseby Village Hall in Northamptonshire. The event uses road and trail sections and passes local landmarks including Holdenby House, Althorp House and Cottesbrooke House. Naseby is noted for the 1645 Battle of Naseby.
The course direction alternates by year: clockwise in even years and anti clockwise in odd years.
Distances offered
- Ultra Marathon: 35 miles
- Marathon: 26.6 miles
- Three Quarter Marathon: 19.1 miles
- Half Marathon: 13.4 miles
- 10K: 10 kilometres
Key race details include navigation requirements, aid stations, cut off times and age limits. The Ultra requires navigation and provides a GPS tracker and an app with voice cues, five checkpoints, a 10 hour cut off and mandatory kit such as a charged mobile phone and minimum 1 litre water. The Marathon and Three Quarter routes combine road and trail sections with waymarked stretches, GPS support and progressive cut offs. The Half Marathon is well marked and marshalled with two checkpoints and a 4 hour cut off. The 10K is a road race with undulating elevation, a single water station and no cut off.
Entry fees vary by distance with higher on the day fees payable in cash. A charity option requires a £10 admin fee and specified fundraising commitments per distance. Free parking is available at the village hall. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
