Overview
Shires and Spires is a multi-distance, circular running event based at Naseby Village Hall, Northamptonshire (NN6 6DE). The route mixes country trails and roads and changes direction each year - clockwise on even years and anti-clockwise on odd years. The event offers five distances and multiple support services, including GPS tracking, voice navigation, aid stations and bag storage at the finish.

- Ultra Marathon - 35 miles
- Marathon - 26.6 miles
- Three-Quarter Marathon - 19.1 miles
- Half Marathon - 13.4 miles
- 10K - 10 kilometres
Course and navigation: the route is waymarked but some sections require navigation. Organisers provide a GPS tracker and a free voice navigation app; GPX files are available. For the ultra the route composition is given as roughly 59% trails and 41% roads, with total elevation around +2,052 ft / -2,052 ft. There are five checkpoints on the ultra and aid points with water and snacks on longer distances. Cut-off times and progressive cut-offs apply for the longer events.
Entry and rules: published entry fees range from £24 to £60 depending on distance. Age limits vary by distance (10K 16+, Half 17+, longer distances 18+). Mandatory kit requirements are used and random kit checks take place. Prizes are awarded to top finishers and all finishers receive a medal. Free parking is available at the village hall.
