Shinfield 10k

The Shinfield 10k is a community running event held in the village of Shinfield. The main race is a 10 km course that utilizes local roads. The event features chip timing, and participants receive their results via SMS message shortly after completing the distance. Finishers in the 10 km race are awarded medals, and prizes are distributed across several age categories, ranging from senior athletes to the 80+ bracket. Special recognition is also given to the first male and female finishers residing in the local RG2 and RG7 postcode areas.

In addition to the main road race, the event includes a series of Junior Cross Country Races held in Langley Mead. These races take place on natural terrain, including alluvial pasture and flood plains near the River Loddon, which may be wet, slippery, or contain potholes. The junior distances are:

  • 2 km (Ages 4-9)
  • 3.1 km (Ages 10-12)
  • 4.1 km (Ages 13-15)

Facilities at the venue include bag storage, toilets, and registration located at Shinfield Infant & Nursery School. Parking is available at Thames Valley Science Park, situated at postcode RG2 9LH. The event raises funds for local charities, with all profits donated to community causes. Since its inception in 1985, the event has raised over £135,000. Due to safety regulations, the use of personal audio devices, such as headphones, is prohibited during the races, and dogs, buggies, or wheelchairs are not permitted on the course.
