Sheriff's Shootout, Mancos CO
The Sheriff's Shootout is a lap-based endurance event held on November 7, 2026 in Mancos, Colorado. The course is a rugged one-mile loop that runners repeat to accumulate distance within chosen time limits. Each lap includes steep ascents and rocky descents and offers views of Mesa Verde and Sleeping Ute Mountain. The main aid station and crew area are accessible every mile.
Event formats include:
- 12 Hour Jail Break
- 12 Hour Team Jail Break (teams up to four; only one teammate on course at a time)
- 6 Hour Team Pursuit (teams of two may trade laps)
- 6 Hour Pursuit
A new Hot Lap feature allows participants to attempt timed laps after checking in with the event official; a running leaderboard tracks Hot Lap times and the fastest Hot Lap earns a cash prize of $100. The central aid station supplies hydration, snacks, and basic race support. As evening falls, there is a bonfire and camp and spectator areas near the central hub.
Entry to the event is free. Each participant is asked to bring a contribution for shared food or drink and at least one nonperishable item for donation to the Dolores Community Pantry. Pulled pork sandwiches will be provided. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
