Mancos Cowboy Half Marathon, 5K, and Kids Fun Run
The event includes three distances:
- 13.1 miles Cowboy Half Marathon
- 5K out and back
- 1 mile Kids Fun Run
The Cowboy Half features a mix of roughly 60% gravel roads and trails and 40% pavement. The course includes a narrow, rocky off-road section of about two miles that passes through private and BLM land and areas affected by a past wildfire; pre-running that section is not allowed. The 5K runs mainly on a lightly traveled, paved county road with an uphill outbound section and a faster return to the finish area at the public library.
This is a fundraiser for the Mancos Public Library; proceeds support the library and its programs. Participants who raise $500 for the library will have their entry fee reimbursed.
Logistics and services: packet pickup is available at the Mancos Public Library and at the start line on race day. All event parking is on Grand Ave, at Boyle Park, or in Mancos Schools parking lots along Grand Ave, within a short walk to the library. The race is cupless; runners should bring their own hydration. There are five aid stations roughly every two miles stocked with water and Tailwind Endurance, with ice available at Aid 3, 4, and 5. Gels and nuts are available at Aid 3. Port a potties are located on course at about miles 3.2 and 9. Mile markers are placed each mile.
Safety notes: roads have minimal traffic and will be marked, but runners should stay on the left shoulder and follow marshal instructions. No dogs allowed. Strollers are permitted only in the 5K. Timing is provided with RFID chips on bibs and race results will be posted by the timing company and displayed at a live results kiosk.
