Shark in the Park 5K
Shark in the Park 5K is a community run and walk held on June 20, 2026, at Gleason Park, 1233 Yacht Club Blvd., Indian Harbour Beach, Florida 32937. The event commemorates the 2014 discovery and relocation of a three and a half foot bull shark from the lake in Gleason Park to the Indian River. The shark was given the informal name Sushi and its capture and release are the reason for the event date.
The course begins in Gleason Park, proceeds through shaded, tree lined park areas and nearby neighborhoods, and returns to the park for an after party. The event offers a single distance of 5K for both runners and walkers. Finisher medals are available for the first 500 participants to register.
Registration opens February 1, 2026 and closes June 19, 2026. The registration fee is $35.00. The event is organized by the City of Indian Harbour Beach and takes place entirely in and around Gleason Park and adjacent streets. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
