Event overview

The Shannon Trail Series is a three-race trail series organized by the San Angelo Road Lizards in San Angelo, TX. The series runs from January 17 to February 21, 2026 and includes three separate race days at different parks: Middle Concho Park, Twin Buttes Boat Ramp, and San Angelo State Park (Chaparral Pavilion).

Races and distances

  • Race 1 - 5K and 10K at Middle Concho Park.
  • Race 2 - 5K and 12K at Twin Buttes Boat Ramp.
  • Race 3 - 5K and 15K at San Angelo State Park.

Timing, scoring and awards

Races are chip timed, but awards are based on gun time. Finisher medals are given at each race only on race day. Overall awards for Top 3 male and female are given at each race for both distances using gun time. Series scoring is separate for short courses and long courses. Points start at 1000 for first place, 999 for second, 998 for third, and so on; points from all three races are summed to determine series standings. Ties are broken by total raw time. Series age group awards are given after the third race; starting in 2026 participants must finish all three races to be eligible for series age group awards.

Rules and course notes

Participants may walk the races. Pets are not allowed on the course. Strollers are not appropriate because the course has rocky climbs and narrow single-track dirt trails. Changing distance across races is allowed, but doing so may affect series scoring. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
