4th Annual Shamong Turkey Trot
The Shamong Turkey Trot takes place in Shamong, New Jersey, featuring two distinct events for participants. This annual community gathering is organized by Spirit of Shamong in collaboration with Girl Scout Troop 24713. The net proceeds from the event are used to support local Girl Scout projects within the community.
The available distances include:
- 5 km (3.1 Miles) chip timed running race.
- 1 Mile Fun Run or Walk.
The 5 km course begins at the Indian Mills Memorial School parking lot. The route follows a loop along Old Indian Mills Road, Grassy Lake, Stokes Road, and Oakshade, before returning to the school for the finish. This race utilizes electronic chip timing with live online results. Awards are provided for the top male and female finishers, and medals are designated for various age groups ranging from 14 and under to 70 and older.
The 1 Mile event is held on the circular driveway of the school. Participants complete five laps of the driveway, collecting a popsicle stick for each lap to track their progress. All participants in the mile event receive a participation medal. In addition to medals, the first-place male and female finishers in both the 5 km and the 1 mile events are awarded Thanksgiving pies.
