Shakespear Regional Park : Auckland Trail Run & Walk Series
The event takes place at Shakespear Regional Park on the tip of the Whangaparaoa Peninsula on Sunday, June 28, 2026. The organiser presents the layout as an entry level trail course suitable for families and groups.
Distances and climbs:
- Short course: 5.7 km, approximately 140 m total climb
- Mid course: 10 km, approximately 200 m total climb
- Long course: 15.5 km, approximately 260 m total climb
- Super long course: 19.6 km, approximately 335 m total climb
Course terrain includes gravel road starts, campground sections, single track and wider open trails, beach running along Te Haruhi, coastal rock sections, wetland loops, ridgelines and a Waterfall Gully Heritage Track. Drink stations are placed on the courses and no disposable cups will be provided; participants should bring a reusable cup, hydration pack or bottle. Collapsible cups and soft flasks are available for purchase at the event base.
Biosecurity and park rules are emphasised. Footwear must be clean and free of visible soil and then disinfected to help prevent Kauri Dieback. Participants should stay on tracks and avoid Kauri roots. Dogs are not permitted in vehicles, on course or within the park grounds.
Event safety notes state that medics will be stationed at event base and marshals may carry first aid. Participants are advised to be prepared for variable terrain and weather and to carry basic safety items such as hydration, a basic first aid kit, a cell phone and additional warm clothing.
The park contains a wildlife sanctuary supported by the Shakespear Open Sanctuary Society Inc, a project that includes predator control, species reintroductions and habitat restoration. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
