Sgt David Hierholzer Memorial Day 50k
The Sgt David Hierholzer Memorial Day 50k is an annual tribute event hosted by the Fallen Warrior Foundation. The journey takes participants across Marshall County, starting from the north county line and traveling south. Participants move together as a unit, typically maintaining a pace of 10-10:30 minutes per mile. The group stops every 3 to 5 miles to regroup along the route.
The event offers several distance options to accommodate different participants:
- 50 km (32 miles) covering the full distance from the North to South county line.
- 22 miles running from the North county line to Lewisburg Square.
- 11 miles running from Lewisburg Square to the South county line.
- 4 miles ruck or walk from Cornersville High School to the South county line.
While the community often provides volunteer aid stations every 3 to 5 miles, participants are expected to be self-supportive. It is recommended to carry water, electrolytes, and a cell phone. Participants are responsible for their own transportation to and from the various start and end points along the course. Registration is open to individuals aged 16 and older. All funds generated by the event are used to purchase school supplies and backpacks for children in the local community. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
