Seven Sisters 25k
The Seven Sisters 25k is a mountain trail race in the Montreat Wilderness, held on April 17th, 2027 in Montreat, NC. Prior trail running experience is required to participate. Entry fee is $90; refunds minus $20 are granted up to 60 days before the event and no transfers or deferments are allowed. Packet pickup is available at Mountain Running Company in downtown Black Mountain and there is race day pickup.
The course is approximately 14.5 miles with about 4,000 feet of elevation gain, a 5.5 hour time limit, roughly 13.5 miles of singletrack and about 1 mile of pavement. The route passes multiple peaks and overlooks including Lookout Rocks, Rocky Head, Graybeard, Rattlesnake Rocks, and the Seven Sisters on the West Ridge Trail. Runners leave a short section of pavement to reach singletrack, then encounter steep, technical terrain with many roots and rocks and steep climbs and descents.
Aid stations are placed at about 4 and 8 miles and operate with time cutoffs; they provide at minimum water and Gatorade and offer foods such as bananas, potato chips, pretzels, and M&Ms. Required gear includes a rain shell, at least a 20 oz water carrying device, a whistle, a cell phone, and an emergency blanket. There is no parking at the start; parking is at designated sites and the start/finish area is about a third of a mile walk from parking. The race is cupless.
Race rules require staying on marked trails, not cutting switchbacks, carrying required gear, using proper trail etiquette, being courteous to other trail users, not littering, and following race officials. Awards are given to the top three men and women and all finishers receive a hand-made medal and a race t-shirt. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
