The Sentinel Hill Climb in Missoula is a steep 1.6 mile trail race ascending nearly 2,000 feet to the summit of Mount Sentinel. Participants receive chip timing, ice cream at the finish, and can compete for cash prizes. A shorter kids run is also included.

Sentinel Hill Climb

The Sentinel Hill Climb is a trail race in Missoula, Montana. The course is 1.6 miles long and climbs 1,970 feet from the base of Mount Sentinel to its summit. The start is at the ‘M’ Trail Parking Lot on the University of Montana campus. The first third of the climb follows the ‘M’ trail, and the remainder follows the Northwest ridge trail.

The event is limited to 250 runners. Registration pricing is tiered, ranging from $30 to $35. Chip timing is provided. Big Dipper Ice Cream and Hammer Nutrition products are available at the finish. The event includes a free Kids ‘M’ Trail Climb. This children's race is 0.6 miles with 600 feet of climbing, finishing at the ‘M’.

Awards include a $100 cash prize for the first-place male and female finishers who start in the elite wave. A $50 premium is also offered for the first male and female to reach the ‘M’. Age group winners receive a gift card to Big Dipper Ice Cream. Age groups are 0-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70+.

Participants must note there are no refunds, deferrals, or bib transfers. Parking in the ‘M’ Trail Parking Lot is limited, and surrounding university lots require a permit.
